Black granite

Black diabase, simply called black granite, is an exclusive, very dense and homogeneous stone with very little variation in color and grain structure.

Black granite is the only stone that can be photo blasted, i.e. a photo can be laser engraved on the tombstone.

Gravestones are manufactured using a variety of processes to create beautiful contrasts in the stone. Smooth, polished surfaces are darker than rough/carved surfaces for the same stone. The darker the stone, the higher the contrast between a polished and a carved surface. Black granite is therefore very suitable for beautiful decorations and sculptures where the contrasts come into their own.

Both raised and recessed, carved or recessed, white, gold and silver painted text and decorations fit well on black polished granite.

The only disadvantage of black granite is that it is heavy and cumbersome to handle due to its density, and since it is a walking stone, it can be difficult to get hold of large blocks of black granite.
